Blessing of Food for the First Meal of Easter…The custom of blessing food for Easter arose from the
discipline of fasting throughout Lent and the special Easter fast during the Easter Triduum. Easter was the first day when meat, eggs, and other foods could again be eaten. Although not an obligation, the special fast during the Triduum may still be observed as well as the tradition of blessing food for the first meal of Easter. This special blessing of food will take place in each of our parishes on Holy Saturday morning, April 23, as follows: Resurrection and St. Mary’s at 9:00am; Holy Angels and St. Paul’s at 9:45am.

Catholic Relief Services - Operation Rice Bowl
Palm Sunday — Your Attitude Must Be Christ’s
We hear in sacred scripture this weekend how Christ redeemed us not by a one-time small gift, but by becoming one of us and giving His whole self even unto death on a Cross. Through our support of Operation Rice Bowl, Catholic Relief Services gives more than short term assistance to poor countries; it establishes long term, person-focused, sustainable programs that provide better opportunities for each individual, and it remains in communities to help these efforts succeed.

Good Friday Pilgrimage – Join Sowers of Justice, J-Walkers and Voices that Challenge for “Living Stations of the Cross” as we journey through Norfolk, stopping at different sites to prophetically reflect, and pray over our Catholic Social Teachings. Following Jesus’ example, we embrace the cross and the power of love as a way to challenge the powers of injustice, oppression, and exploitation. We will begin our pilgrimage at the front steps of the Basilica of St. Mary’s on Good Friday, April 22, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. and end back at St. Mary’s parking lot by 1:00 p.m. for a light lunch. May God bless you so that you may work for justice, freedom, and peace. (Information Contact: Giselle Weinstein 620-5466)
