Two job openings
available at Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia (Southside)…..Both
are full time with benefits. In-Home Respite Care Coordinator needed to
manage a respite program for local seniors. College degree in social
work or human services preferred. Other position is for a Life Coach who
will be based in the Emergency Department of a hospital located in
Portsmouth, VA. and be responsible for connecting patients with chronic
illnesses to a primary care physician and to resources in the community.

Calling all artists and crafters…There still is time to get out your paint brushes, glitter and fabric to decorate a cane for the “Raising Cane” Art Show to benefit guardianship clients of Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia. Thank you sincerely for the tremendous outpouring of support for the retired nun in Virginia Beach who needed furniture for her apartment. She now is getting round-the-clock medical care at a local nursing home and needs only your prayers.
Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia is
pleased to announce that its mental health counseling office has a new
name: the Life Counseling and Recovery Center. The center will
remain at the same location at 4855 Princess Anne Road in Virginia Beach
( next to Ascension Church) and will continue to provide the same high
quality of counseling services that people have come to expect from
Catholic Charities. The
center offers expanded services in:
- Pastoral Counseling for Addictions and Family issues
- Counseling for Couples in distress
- Play Therapy to help children process difficulties
- Individual counseling for anger, depression and disorders

A very big thank you to the generous Vacation Bible
School participants at Blessed Sacrament Church in Norfolk! The children
took up a supply drive to help older adults under the care of Catholic
Charities of Eastern Virginia. They collected soap, shampoo, lotion,
mouthwash and even a few potted plants to give
to the seniors ---many of whom live on limited incomes. Thanks again,
Vacation Bible School campers, for helping Catholic Charities aid the

Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia
extends its sincere appreciation and gratitude to the many parishes,
parishioners and volunteers who helped to make the Bishop’s
Humanitarian Award Gala a grand success. More than 300 guests
turned out on February 27th to recognize the recipients of the 2010
Humanitarian Award, Jacqueline and Frederick J. Napolitano, Sr. The
award was presented by Bishop Francis DiLorenzo who spoke about the
importance of faith in action.
Proceeds from the Gala benefit Catholic Charities’ programs and services
throughout Hampton Roads.

Catholic Charities’ vehicle donation program accepts water damaged cars, trucks, RVs, campers, motorcycles, and boats...whatever their condition. We work with a company that will tow them away. Positions available at Catholic Charities- Facilitators are
needed to run bi-monthly Pre-Marital Preparation course for couples
planning to be united in the Holy Sacrament of Marriage.
Requirements include being a Catholic in good standing, previous
experience as a facilitator, and knowledge of one or more of the subject
areas: Building Your Marriage on a Sound Foundation, Establishing
Emotional Intimacy, Dealing with Conflict and the Sacrament of Marriage.
(A Deacon is preferred for the last
section). It would be highly desirable to have a married couple as
facilitators. The Pre-Marital classes are held in Virginia Beach and
Newport News on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month. Interested
applicants are asked to e-mail their resume, with Premarital facilitator
in the subject line, to hr@cceva.org.

Interested couples should be between the ages of 25-65, in good health and have parenting experience. Volunteers are needed to help acquire donations and ad sponsors for the
Bishop’s Humanitarian Award Gala to be held in February 2010. The Gala,
which is sponsored by Catholic Charities, recognizes individuals for
their works of charity in the community. Gala volunteers can work from
home (if preferred) and are asked to attend only a few meetings at our
office in Virginia Beach. Even if you can give only a few hours a week,
please call Jessica Lombardi at Catholic Charities of
Eastern Virginia at 757-456-2366 ext. 504.

its many services, Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia cares for
Guardianship clients, many of them indigent, who no longer can care for
themselves. Can you help provide them with adult diapers (large),
toiletries including shampoo, deodorant, soap, body lotion, men’s
electric shavers
and aftershave, and men’s and women’s socks (all sizes). You may drop
off your donations at any Catholic Charities’ office. Thank you

Thank you to all who gave to the second collection last weekend. The
collection supports Catholic Charities’ many services and programs in
the community. Requests for emergency financial assistance has increased
greatly. Your support helps Catholic Charities help the
needy and disadvantaged throughout the year.
What are you doing to help others during these difficult times? Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia is seeking volunteers to answer phones, greet clients and do some computer work at its offices in Virginia Beach and Norfolk. What are you doing to help others during these difficult economic times? Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia is seeking volunteers to process requests for emergency financial assistance for rent, mortgage and utilities. Individuals will be trained to process aid applications and should be willing to commit between 15-20 hours per week. CCUSA, which has been commissioned by the U.S. Catholic Bishops to represent the Catholic community in times of domestic disaster, responds with emergency and long-term assistance as needed. Its Disaster Response Office connects the Church’s social service agencies and disaster planning offices across the nation.
Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia has HUD Certified Housing Counselors available to help those facing foreclosure or mortgage problems. Did you know that 50% of households in our community earn below median income? Fewer dollars coming in means more struggle to pay household expenses. More and more of us cannot even make our mortgage payments! Last year, Virginia went from 40th in the nation to 17th in frequency of foreclosure. Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia provides mental health services for the uninsured. With a recent grant, Catholic Charities is able to offer counseling sessions at little or no cost to individuals who lack health coverage. If you know someone who could benefit from these services, please have them call 757-467- 7707 on the Southside or on the Peninsula 757-875-0060. All inquiries are strictly confidential.
Needy mothers count on Catholic Charities for help. Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia distributes free baby supplies to mothers of limited means. Due to increased demand for assistance, our supplies are running low. Can you help by providing a package of diapers (newborn through toddler), diaper rash ointment, baby wipes, shampoo or infant formula? Please drop donations at your local Catholic Charities’ office or call 757-490-4931. The mothers and babies will thank you.
